The fire ban season has fire officials asking Kentuckians not to burn within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland area between the hours of six a.m. and six p.m.
Oct. 1st started the first day of the burn ban season, which will last until Dec. 15. In 2016, more than 71,000 acres of land across Kentucky were damaged by wildfires.
If you see a forest fire close to your residence, your home, or your neighbor’s home, don’t hesitate to call 911.

A Closplint man was ordered to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence after his probation was revoked recently in Harlan Circuit Court.
Joey D. Blevins, 38, appeared with his attorney Russell Alred in front of Harlan Circuit Judge Kent Hendrickson on Sept. 9 on the state’s motion to revoke probation. Commonwealth’s Attorney Parker Boggs and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jonathon Lee handled matters for the state.
Blevins was granted probation following a plea of guilty he entered on June 19, 2015 on a two-count indictment charging him with cultivating marijuana and persistent felony offender.

According to nationalbreastcancer.org, one in eight U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
There are success stories to go along with the sobering statistics of the disease. Over 3 million breast cancer survivors are residing in the U.S. today.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Middlesboro ARH Hospital will be holding its ninth annual Breast Cancer Survivor Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception on Oct. 3 in the hospital lobby.
Breast cancer survivors throughout the Tri-State are invited to attend.

Another Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival has come and gone for the season. Over the weekend hundreds of locals took in the crafts, carnival and local entertainment over the three day event. On Saturday night country music artist Craig Campbell performed before a large audience. Many citizens that attended went to Facebook to express how this years festival was very entertaining and enjoyed the vendors and crafters.
