On Monday at 9:06 am Bell County Dispatch received a call of a two vehicle accident with injuries on Highway 66 in the Cary/Arjay area.

Reponding to the scene was Bell County Sheriff’s Sgt Jared Smith and Jake Perry along with the Bell County EMS, Bell County Rescue Squad, and Bell County Volunteer Fire Department.

Sgt. Smith determined that a white Toyota pickup with a male driver was coming around a blind curve and did not see a black Chevrolet with a female driver turning into a drive way.
The pickup impacted the Chevrolet in the rear of the vehicle causing damage to both.

While the male driver was uninjured, the female was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was then transported to Pineville Community Hospital via Bell EMS with unknown injuries.

Sgt. Smith determined no charges were warranted in this incident.


The Harlan Daily News reports

A Wallins man is facing on assault charge after allegedly beating a woman.

Charles Simpson, 77, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Drew Wilson on Saturday.

According to the arrest warrant obtained by Wilson, police received an assault complaint from a woman at Harlan ARH Hospital. Police arrived and made contact with a woman stating she had been beaten by Simpson. Simpson is the woman’s brother and lives in the same residence. The woman advised the two had gotten into an argument and Simpson beat her. She had several cuts and bruises on her head, face and hands. She stated she had laid in bed all night before being found by a neighbor who helps take care of her.

Simpson was charged with second-degree assault and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.

Elmer Burnette’s escape from work release detail sent Knox Central High School into lockdown Monday morning.

Deputy jailers regained custody of Burnette after spotting him and chasing him down nearby.
