A Claiborne County man was arrested after a fatal shooting Monday.

The shooting happened near 834 Leach-Medley Road in Speedwell around 6:12 p.m.

Investigators say Hank Austin Williams, 47, and Zachary Scott Dick, 53, had an argument over property. Disk’s body was found at the scene by deputies.

According to the report, Williams shot Disk with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Williams is being held at the Claiborne County Jail and faces charges for homicide.


A grand jury has returned an indictment against a woman on murder charges.

Shannon Smith, 44, is accused of shooting her husband, Timothy Ray Smith. Timothy Smith was found dead in the driveway of his home in the 900 block of Highway 61 West on July 23.

The Union County Sheriff’s office said they believe Shannon Smith shot and killed her husband. She faces charges for second-degree murder.

The sheriff’s office said Smith is being held at the Union County Jail on a $250,000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for August 28.

Middlesboro ARH welcomed Sen. Rand Paul to a roundtable discussion concerning ways to improve and implement healthcare needs of the hospital and Bell County.

Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives Community CEO Michael Slusher introduced Paul to the room of various physicians and hospital personnel and opened the floor for discussion on different market forces the hospital has found challenging.

A man is behind bars after police say he tried to run them over.

Police arrested Thomas Gray, age 36, of Flat Lick after he drove his truck in the direction of a Knox County deputy’s patrol car at a gas station around 1:50 Tuesday morning. After nearly missing the police car, Gray made a sharp turn onto US-25E traveling the wrong way, running serval cars off the road. Police say Gray wrecked the truck he was driving into a ditch and ran away.

He was found and arrested on Evergreen Road in Knox County. Police say the truck Gray was driving at the time was stolen and they found a stolen EBT card in Gray’s possession.
