Human remains tentatively identified as a human skull were discovered Thursday morning, according to a brief news release from the Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan.
KSP received a call around 10:30 a.m. from an individual working for Phillips Tree Service about locating a possible human skull off of Philpot Lane in the Shields community of Harlan County.
Detectives from Post 10 responded to the location and collected the remains. KSP is sending the remains to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for identification.
The case is still under investigation by Det. Josh Howard.
Last nights kick off of the third season of the Levitt AMP Music series in downtown Middlesboro drew a large crowd. 3DC started drawing people into the stage area playing Three Dog Nights favorites and firing up the crowd. By the time Eddie Cotton took the stage the attendance was well over 500+. The Free music series will continue for the next 10 weeks on Thursday night in Downtown Middlesboro.

The annual Wing Fling is set to kick off in Middlesboro on Saturday. For the third year in a row, contestants will participate in a chicken wing face-off.
There are 15 cooks/contestants this year. Aside from the cooking competition, there will also be a chicken wing eating contest where contestants will have only five minutes to devour as many wings as they can. Each contestant will receive 4 pounds of wings. The eaters will be allowed to drink water and nothing else during the contest.
The grand prize for the cooking competition will be $1,000 and the winner will be determined by a blind judging process to ensure complete fairness.
