Over the weekend the 1st Annual Bell County Relay for Life CO-ED Softball Tournament was held at the Lincoln Park field. 10 teams entered to help raise funds for this years Bell County Relay for Life event. According to Jessica Teaney “the event was a big success with the the entry fees and the concessions that was sold over the two day event. First place went to the WFXY Radio team for going undefeated and second place went to Tim Short Chrysler. Bell County Relay for Life will have more fundraising events between now and June.

WYMT News reports

Whitley County sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman on Sunday morning after they say they found her passed out in her car on the road, with the gas pedal completely compressed.
They say Hope Singleton, 37, of Keavy, was found in a Volkswagen with smoke coming from the hood. Deputies said they also found a bottle of liquor in the floor board. She refused to do a sobriety test.

When Singleton woke up, deputies said she became combative and kicked the windows of their cruiser.

Singleton was charged for resisting arrest, DUI, assault and disorderly conduct among other things.

Laurel County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man early Sunday morning, after they said they found nearly a half pound of crystal meth and more than $100,000 in cash.

Dustin Higginbotham was arrested after deputies said they found the meth in the same room that his 8-year-old son was sleeping in.

Higginbotham has been charged for wanton endangerment and trafficking in a controlled substance.

A Claiborne County veteran finally got the keys to his brand new home on Saturday.

Marine LCpl. Cody Evans was injured in Afghanistan in 2011 when an IED exploded leaving him a double amputee. Non-profit A Soldier’s Journey Home surprised him in October with the announcement they would be building him a wheelchair friendly home. Construction began last weekend with volunteers working around the clock to get it done in just a few days.
